What vegetables can be planted in the middle of winter in in the middle of Ireland?

Would espcially like to plant in a container, ie half barrel.
I am just getting into gardening so all help appreciated, as I want to make this my hobby.

This time of the year absolutely nothing outside. I wouldn’t even recommend cloches. Leave it a couple of months, don’t be impatient, spring is around the corner. Anyway you wuold do your soil more harm that goog trampling around on this weather. Hope you enjoy your new hobby, it can be very rewarding.

i think that the only plant that is planted in ireland is the potato so u guys can have your whisky.

Potatoes. But you have to plant them deep enough so they won´t freeze but not too deep so…. maybe it´s best to wait till spring.
Plant some herbs inside until then.

Winter Cauliflower, spring cabbage, onions, Feltham first peas. I’ll edit if I can find any more.
