herbs like the more delicate French Lavenders are good
(indoor or shelter in winter)
or bergamot, Echineachea; rosemary (can flower in winter);
chicory/endives have blue flowers on long spikes and can give you winter salad leaves;
otherwise any perennial that takes your fancy, just check on the label for how big it will grow for suitability of pot’s size and
by mixing bulbs and the flowering season, (early, mid, late summer) you could move things around as they become dormant and have continuous colour

Carnation’s come up every year, and flower right through the summer,
Daff’ come early in year in March, but don’t last that long.
