Organic Gardening for Beginners

Can anyone recommend a good gardening book for complete beginners – who want to use organic/environmentally friendly/chemical-free methods.

I want to try and grow some vegetables in pots and grow bags, but I know nothing at all about gardening.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

When do I transfer herb seedlings to larger pot then garden?

I’m growing many different types of herbs, including mints, chamomile, milk thistle, mallow…

I have been reccommended to sow them in trays first then, the ones that germinate, transplant to larger pots then to the garden.

Any help shall be greatly appreciated.

whats the difference between the living herb pots from supermarkets and herb bought from the garden centre?

Hi, does anyone know the difference between the living supermarket herbs and the herb plants that you buy at the garden centre. The supermarket ones die very quickly and i have not had any sucess planting them in bigger pots either, how are they different? thanks

Which plants do well in pots and containers?

I want to put some pots around my garden which is mostly graveled and paved. The garden faces north/northeast, but has plenty of sunny spots. I don’t want to only rely on bedding plants in the summer months, as I would like some colour and greenery all year round. Also any other tips for container gardening would be gratefully recieved as I’m a novice and not especially green-fingered!
