Yes, I believe I read (gasp! in a newspaper!) that as of 2004-5, 95% of newspapers were in soy-based ink. Lead was banned quite some time ago. I would think, if it were made of lead, it would be hazardous for us to read, touch, breathe in…

Most newspapers use vegetable inks now. Newspapers are perfectly fine for organic gardening. They’re used in No Dig Gardens and with Vermicomposting too.

this is not such a smart idea WHY? do you know from which material are letters made of? from lead! and lead is not good for any living creature. It is not smart to contaminate your plants if you are going to use them later as food font do this! If that is going to be inedible then ok but higher levels of lead can damage a plant
